Real builds

How we keep your data in your hands. Five recent jobs.

Described the way we would describe them to you: what was wrong, what we built, and where the data lives afterwards. Names withheld on purpose; our customers are on the home page.

Best practice

The pattern behind every build

Three nodes on your premises so any one can fail. Copy one of every server on the cluster itself. Copy two on a Proxmox Backup Server writing to a QNAP in your building, deduplicated and verified every week. Copy three encrypted in our data centre, restores rehearsed on request. Our monitoring watches the lot and you get a plain-English report every week. The kit and the data are yours; we just run it.

Off VMware, onto their own three-node cloud

Three ageing HP servers under ESXi and a Broadcom renewal priced for a company ten times the size. We built a three-node Proxmox cluster, soak-tested it in our workshop, and installed it in a day. Proxmox Backup Server on a QNAP in their building takes copy two; an encrypted copy three lands with us. Every virtual machine moved on its own day: the domain controller in 3h 35m, the accounts system live-migrated with 131 ms of interruption. Nobody changed how they work.

An aerospace parts supplier · ctxmail · September 2026

Off Exchange in a day, every item counted

Nine mailboxes on an out-of-support Exchange, the largest holding over 100,000 items, plus eleven distribution lists. Mailboxes were copied to ctxmail in the background over several days, the domain switched at 11:05, Outlook and phones reconnected remotely, and every check was complete by 13:10 the same day with item counts reconciled exactly. Their specialist aerospace ERP runs on a server environment we built and support with the vendor's own team.

An existing private cloud brought up to standard

A Proxmox build that predated our managed service, running without a quorum device or any off-site copy. We added the quorum, installed our monitoring agent, and built the full three-tier backup chain: Proxmox Backup Server on the cluster, a QNAP on site, an encrypted copy with us. 96 GB of backups now store in 27 GB and are verified every week. Same specialist ERP as above, same vendor relationship.

A twelve-depot tyre business · managed IT and hosting · since 2020

From three depots to twelve without an IT department

We have looked after them since 2020, through growth from three depots to twelve. We host their website and customer portal, run their email, keep a managed node on site, and delivered a head-office move end to end: routing, switching, security and every user migrated, with the depots never off the air.
